Overview:

Length: Three days
Workshop hours: 9:00 - 16:00
Workshop material: English
Workshop instructor: English, Dutch, German and Spanish

About the workshop:

The objective of the workshop is to help your developer team get their safety device ready for the safety market. The workshop consists of three days. The purpose of the workshop is to train your team in the fundamental principals of IEC 61508 and functional safety. The first day will focus on the functional safety theory and will explain the important requirements of the IEC 61508 standard. The second and third day will be used to demonstrate based on one of your own safety devices how to put the theory of the first day in practice.

What you will learn:

At the end of the workshop your team will understand what functional safety means, what the most important requirements of the standard are and how it applies to their developers works and their safety devices. Most importantly, due to the practical aspects of the workshop your team will create, based on one of their own devices, the necessary paperwork that will form the basis for any third party certification that you might need in order to sell your product in the safety market.

Agenda

First day:

  • Functional safety management: documentation, V&V, measures to avoid failures, etc
  • Hardware requirements: architectural constraints, HFT, SFF, PFD, measures to avoid an control failures, etc
  • Software requirements: v-model, tools, measures to avoid and control failures, etc.
  • User documentation

Second day:

On the second and third day the practical workshop starts. Your developers will start (based on their own safety device) to develop the three most important documents in the field of functional safety:

  • Safety plan
  • Verification plan
  • Safety requirements specification

Third day:

  • Together with the developers a start will be made with the FMEDA
  • Together with the developers the existing software will be analyzed
  • The day will be ended with a gap-analysis and the path forward to finish the work that will lead to successful functional safety approval

What others have to say:

"Never thought that such a complex standard could be explained so easily. Also the required documentation and the FMEDA was explained so natural by Risknowlogy that our engineers could finish the job with minimum further support. It really saved us a lot of time."

ABB Stolz Kontakt

"We expected a long development process for our new functional safety devices. But we learnt a lot during the workshop and had a straightforward path to work on. We finished in half the time."
