Functional Safety Data Sheet®
What is a Functional Safety Data Sheet®?
A functional safety data sheet (FSDS) is a certificate expressing an independent review by Risknowlogy about the functional safety properties of your product according to standards like IEC 61508, 61511, or 62061. An FSDS is an excellent independent verification service for suppliers to demonstrate to end-user that their product is compliant with the applicable standards.
How does it work?
If you manufacture or supply products in the functional safety industry you need to demonstrate to your end-user that you product is fit for use in SIL applications. It is common to have a third party perform this independent review. Risknowlogy will independently verify your product. You decide what you want us to analyse or review and we will make an independent statement about the results of the review. For example you can ask us to perform an FMEDA for your product and document the results.
What is listed on an FSDS?
The purpose of the FSDS is to quickly show to your customers what the important functional safety properties of your products are. A typical FSDS will list important IEC 61508 information like:
- Type
- Hardware fault tolerance
- Safe failure fraction
- Safe detected failure rate
- Safe undetected failure rate
- Dangerous detected failure rate
- Dangerous undetected failure rate
- Mean time to failure (MTTF)
- Probability of Failure on Demand (PFD)
- Probability of Fail Safe (PFS)
- Fit for use in Safety Integrity Level (SIL)
- Fit for use in Spurious Trip Level (STL)
How about a report?
An FSDS never comes alone. We always document the analysis we performed and the results in a technical report. Both the FSDS and the technical report can be shared with your clients or third parties. They are written in a way that they demonstrate what has been done without comprising sensitive information.
Benefits
- Independent review by an independent third party
-
You decide what Risknowlogy should verify. For example
- Hardware only
- Software only
- Functional safety management only
- Any combination of the above
- FSDS are recognized by end-users and third parties.
- The most cost effective third party approval
