Hazardous Area Instrumentation

Price: EUR 72.75

Model ID: HAICD

The most comprehensive training course on Hazardous Area Instrumentation anywhere!

Hazardous areas comprise a large portion of most petrochemical plants, refineries, oil tank farms and many chemical plants. The instrumentation, control system and electrical systems used in these hazardous or classified locations is designed specially to prevent dangerous incidents. However, unfortunately many people are unaware of the methods of area classification, methods of protection, maintenance & installation of this kind of equipment.

Ingnorance is dangerous and half knowledge can be even more dangerous, especially when one mistake can mean a fire or an explosion, leading to a loss of property or even worse loss of lives. Not to think of the lawsuits & filing for damages.

The solution is increasing awareness and training on hazardous areas and the instrumentation & control systems used in hazardous areas. And the quickest way to learn all about hazardous areas and the instrumentation & control systems used in hazardous areas is through e-learning.

Classroom training, is not a practical training method anymore, especially for you, who may be an engineer or specialist technician working round the clock, in a petrochemical plant. What with tight cost cutting measures, downsizing and rightsizing, there is no way that the boss is going to spare thousands of dollars and man hours on classroom courses. Hence we are talking only about e-learning courses.

The HAZARDOUS AREA INSTRUMENTATION e-learning course can be taken anywhere you prefer, either at home or office or while traveling. All you require is a PC and an internet connection. After downloading the course the internet connection is not required anymore as the course runs offline. And if you opt for the professional version, you require Internet connectivity only to give your exam online, if you so desire.

What this course covers

You get the following six modules , each containing several rich media pages (Rich media pages are pages that contain text , rich graphics, video, animation, diagrams and pictures).

1. Basic Concepts

Here you get a clear overview of all the essential concepts including history of hazardous areas, Fire triangle, flash point, LEL & UEL explained in plain English with animations & pictures, so that your knowldege is built on a firm foundation.

2. Classification (Area, Material, Temperature)

Here you learn the concepts of area classification, material classification, national and International standards. Then, you actually learn, with the aid of a step by step guide, with graphics, HOW to classify hazardous areas in YOUR own plant or facility.

3. Methods of Protection (Explosionproof, Intrinsic Safety, Increased safety, Pressurization and others)

This is the most important and invaluable part of the whole course. You get to know how protection techniques like explosionproofing & Intrinsic Safety actually work, with simulated animations of explosions. See with animations, how safety barriers work to prevent explosions in your plant. Learn how to build an Intrinsically safe loop in a hazardous area, with commercially available instruments and barriers. Understand the various types of pressurization and purging. Know how "Increased Safety" equipment works.

4. Certification & Labeling

What do those funny symbols mean? Can I use any Ex marked instruments in any area? Or not? How to read a label and interpret those markings? Who certifies what? If you have any of these questions, this module explains to you in plain and simple English, all that you need to know about certification and labeling. Be a real pro!

5. Implementing Fieldbus in hazardous areas

Hazardous Areas have been in existence for ages. Fieldbus is relatively new. How to implement Fieldbus then, in hazardous areas? Is there one best way? Or many good ways? What does FISCO mean? And hey, what is FNICO? Learn all of this, in the module on Fieldbus.

6. Inspections & Maintenance

What happens AFTER the hazardous area plant or facility is commissioned with all the engineering & safety standards in place? Does it remain safe? Or does it deteriorate? This can only be answered by the personnel who maintain the hazardous area instruments. If you are in anyway involved in operations or maintenance of hazardous area instruments, then this is the resource that you need. How to carry out inspections? What unsafe conditions should you look out for? Learn all these things in this module.
There are more than 150 pages of smashing animations, graphics, real plant photos, charts, diagrams and of course text, which makes this a pleasurable learning experience.
