Failsafe controller and distributed I/O now part of safety-integrate range

Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) has expanded its safety-integrated range to include the Simatic S7-300F failsafe controller as well as failsafe signal modules for the Simatic ET 200S distributed I/O device. Users can create their own individual safety solutions using refabricated programs. Relevant safety data is transmitted via standard Profibus according to the Profisafe profile.

The Simatic S7-300F control is based on the failsafe CPU 315F which is comparable to the standard CPU 315 with special added safety functions.

For example, it offers a library with safety-related sample programs tested and certified by the German Technical Inspectorate TÜV, enabling quick and easy acceptance testing of the plant. The safety applications are programmed and parameterized like the control program running in parallel with standard Step 7 tools. That lets users solve their own individual safety tasks quickly and easily even without any additional special knowledge. There is no need for an extra safety-related CPU with its own wiring.

Special failsafe signal modules were developed for the Simatic ET200S distributed I/O device. There are currently three I/O modules measuring three centimeters in width for 24-volt direct current: one module for four SIL-3 digital inputs or eight SIL-2 inputs, one module with four 2-ampere outputs as well as a power module with two 2-ampere outputs and a relay output for a maximum of 10 amperes. The two-channel modules can be hot swapped.

The Simatic S7-300F controller and the ET 200S distributed I/O are connected via standard Profibus DP with safety-related data transmitted according to the Profisafe profile. One special advantage offered by the safety-integrated range is the use of just one bus cable – for the transmission of both process and safety-related data. That makes complex parallel wiring as well as special safety buses and engineering tools for safety technology unnecessary.
