RTP announces release of NetSuite 3.1 software
Added fuzzy logic control feature simplifies flow chart programming
POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – May 1, 2002 --The latest release of RTP NetSuite, version 3.1, lets users implement fuzzy logic control into flow chart programming. The new release gives the RTP 2000/2200 Hybrid Control Systems all the functionality of a full Distributed Control System (DCS), without the high cost and technical limitations of proprietary technology.
With the release of 3.1, RTP NetSuite now features a number of benefits as a result of its added fuzzy logic functionality. NetSuite users can:
- reduce their design development cycle
- improve their products' time-to-market
- simplify design complexity
- improve control performance
The added features allow for control of non-traditional, non-linear applications, such as controlling pH or temperatures in an autoclave. In addition, the use of fuzzy logic control in parallel to conventional PID control allows users to define a level of bias or offset. For example, users can spped up the response of a slow-responding, but optimally-tuned PID loop in certain operating conditions by providing a bias. Other applications for RTP NetSuite's fuzzy logic control include:
- filtering - adaptive filtering, and twin deviation edge-preserving filters
- feature extraction: calculating features of a signal such as pulse, width, mean value, etc.
- pattern recognition: given a signal, detecting a particular shape of pattern
- sensor fusion: use several measurement techniques to give a combined measurement
- classification: useful in making a distinction between "apples" and "oranges"
Key elements of the latest NetSuite release also include a centralized project tag database management system, an alarm management system for remote and local alarm configuration, and the industrial strength RTPView HMI software. As part of its Integrated Development Environment (IDE), RTP NetSuite 3.1 also includes the field-proven RTP Data Archiving System, which provides high-performance data acquisition and recording at rates as fast as 20 milliseconds; the NetArrays graphical configurator, which provides point-and-click tools to create, control and manage all elements of a project, as well as an integrated Project Explorer.
Centralized project tag database management system
The centralized project tag database management system supports multiple projects and serves the entire application from I/O to operator interface, and beyond that to MIS applications. For the highest level of reliability, it supports automatic synchronization with a secondary hot-standby database, and performs automatic on-line tag updates with applications as tags are defined and/or reassigned.
Alarm management system
The comprehensive alarm management system allows the user to configure an application to service alarms either locally by the host computer (typically used with PLC-based systems) or remotely at the controller level (as found with DCS systems). In either case, user-definable groups and priorities make alarm management quick and simple.
RTPView HMI software
RTPView is a high-performance, industrial-strength, full-featured HMI designed specifically for the RTP redundant Hybrid Control System and its RTP NetSuite software. A rich set of configuration tools and utilities--including a library of 1300+ images--operating in an intuitive, object-oriented drag-and-drop environment accelerates development of monitoring and control solutions for industrial processes. No third-party software packages are required to deploy advanced control-strategy applications. Because the system runs on MicroSoft® Windows® NT/2000 and an Ethernet backbone, RTPView shortens the time required for integration with external plant systems, other software applications, and legacy hardware.
Advantages of RTP system compared to DCS or PLC alternatives
Coupled with RTP's Hybrid Control System, the release of RTP NetSuite 3.1 provides for both lower initial cost and lower total cost of ownership when compared to DCS or PLC systems, saving customers an estimated 30 percent or more. Plus, RTP's three-year warranty, renowned reliability, and non-obsolescence policy, RTP customers are assured of the lowest cost of ownership throughout the life of the installation.
The RTP Hybrid Control System is based on a distributed open architecture, and includes drivers for the most popular HMI/SCADA packages. To facilitate data exchange with third-party applications such as databases, process optimization applications, and other industry-standard software, RTP NetSuite 3.1 also includes the necessary drivers to allow for fast and simple integration.
"NetSuite 3.1 makes the RTP Hybrid Control System the most flexible and highest value control and data acquisition system in the industry today," states Sal Provanzano, RTP Corp. president.
