Not all equipment for safety instrumented systems is suitable for Ex zones and visa versa, not all equipment suitable for Ex zones is suitable for safety instrumentend functions. Risknowlogy marketing research in Latin America has shown that many safety function in Ex zones are designed to be compliant with Ex zones but are not necessarily compliant with the IEC 61511 standard for safety instrumented systems.
