DaimlerChrysler with safeethernet at the wheel!
DaimlerChrysler's Düsseldorf plant is to run its new production facilities on safety-related controllers networked via safeethernet and provided by HIMA, based at Brühl in Germany.
The HIMatrix controllers are used in the body shop and manage the safety-related monitoring and shutting down of hazardous areas, e.g. where materials handling applications are running or robot cells are in operation.
The SIL 3/Cat. 4-certified HIMatrix controllers are networked using standard Ethernet technology. The safeethernet protocol, which was developed by HIMA in-house and is also certified to SIL 3/Cat 4, ensures the safety-related transmission of all data.
The extended use of the powerful and flexible Ethernet technology to include the safe networking of safety controllers is ideally suited to DaimlerChrysler's innovative production concept and was crucial to HIMA being selected as DaimlerChrysler's supplier.
safeethernet is based on standard Ethernet technology and accelerates the transmission of safety-related data to 100 Mbps.
safeethernet can be integrated into existing Ethernet networks and does away with the need to plan, install and maintain a separate safety bus.
The HIMatrix systems are currently the fastest safety-related controllers in the world (0.02 ms cycle time for 1 K program).
The product family comprises a range of modular and compact controllers in addition to numerous remote I/O modules. All systems are networked safely via safeethernet. Profibus-DP, MODBUS RTU and TCP as well as OPC servers are also available for interfacing with standard components.
