“Going up” is now twice as safe

HIMA's HIMatrix systems used for TWIN lifts produced by ThyssenKrupp Aufzugswerke

(Brühl, 16/08/2006) - The new TWIN lifts from ThyssenKrupp Aufzugswerke GmbH are equipped with HIMatrix controllers by HIMA Paul Hildebrandt GmbH + Co KG. The controllers are used for safety-related distance monitoring and collision avoidance for the two lift cars. This new lift system features two cars arranged one above the other operating independently in one shaft while using shared guide rails. This helps resolve bottlenecks and frees up useful building space. The high safety-related requirements multilevel collision avoidance are fully met by the HIMatrix systems.

The HIMatrix controllers were used for a pilot project at the University of Stuttgart: commercial systems have been installed at the Oceanic Center in Valencia (Spain), the Main Triangel building in Frankfurt (Germany), the headquarters of BMW Group in Munich (Germany) and the Federation Tower in Moscow (Russia). In addition to supplying the hardware, HIMA also provided technical support to ThyssenKrupp Aufzugswerke GmbH during programming.

The 129 I/Os HIMatrix controllers used in the TWIN lifts are certified in accordance with IEC 61508 up to SIL 3 and EN 954 up to Cat. 4.

The compact and modular safety-related controllers are characterised by an excellent processor performance. System operation is monitored via an HMI panel. Apart from the technical features of HIMatrix, HIMA`s excellent technical support was a decisive factor for ThyssenKrupp Aufzugswerke GmbH.

ThyssenKrupp Aufzugswerke GmbH from Neuhausen a. d. F. (Baden-Württemberg) is a subsidiary of ThyssenKrupp Elevator AG, the world's third largest lift company. The product range of ThyssenKrupp Elevator includes lifts, moving sidewalks, escalators and jetways as well as stair lifts and platform lifts.
