Fisher® Digital Valve Controller Improves Safety Integrity Level (SIL)
Marshalltown, Iowa - Fisher Controls International LLC in conjunction with Bettis announced today that Exida.com has prepared a Failure Modes, Effects and Diagnostic Analysis (FMEDA) pertaining to use of a Fisher FIELDVUE® DVC6000 Series digital valve controller with a Bettis G or CBA Series actuator.
The report shows that utilizing this valve control combination to perform partial stroke testing at the required frequency can reduce the Probability of Failure on Demand (PFD), which improves the Safety Integrity Level (SIL) rating of the safety loop.
A Safety Instrumented Function (SIF) with a high SIL rating may require additional reliability measures such as redundant valves with additional piping and associated space requirements.
However, use of the Fisher FIELDVUE controller for partial stroke testing of safety valves provides an opportunity to eliminate the need for redundancy, thereby requiring a smaller capital investment. It may also lower maintenance costs due to superior valve and instrument diagnostics capability.
