On the occasion of the Hannover Fair 2005, HIMA presents the first Ethernet-Ex converter.
This converter makes it possible to directly install IEEE 802.3-compliant Ethernet components in Ex zone 1 with the protection concept intrinsic safety (Ex)i.
Until today, networking into the field could only be solved via serial fieldbuses (with approval for Ex zone 1). Now it is also possible to implement continuous communication from the process control level up to the Ex field level via Ethernet. This leads to improved data transparency and avoids the use of additional Ex fieldbuses.
All standard protocols such as Modbus TCP, Ethernet IP, OPC and, of course, safeethernet for safe data transmission are supported. Due to the openess of the network, independence from the manufacturer is achieved.
The performance of Ethernet is characterised by fast data transmission, plug&work as well as the assurance of the shortest response time within the required safety time. The Ethernet network technology guarantees flexibility of planning, commissioning, maintenance and extension.
In future, it will be possible to directly network Ex controllers and Ex remote IOs via respective network components (e.g. Ex switch or Ex router).
