Honeywell Introduces Pocket PC-based Toolkit for Managing Smart Field Instrument
Honeywell MC Toolkit Handles Multiple Communications Protocols for Configuring, Monitoring, Diagnosing, and Managing Smart Field Instruments
Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions announced today that its Industrial Measurement and Control (IM&C) business has introduced the Honeywell MC Toolkit, a single easy-to-use Pocket PC-based tool for configuration of smart field instruments. This unique tool is designed to reduce costs and enhance productivity for industrial users by handling multiple communications protocols, including Honeywell Digitally Enhanced (DE) and HART*.
This handheld engineering and maintenance tool not only configures smart field instruments but also monitors, diagnoses, and manages them. Developed specifically for ease of use and increased productivity, the Honeywell MC Toolkit allows straightforward access to device configuration database parameters using state-of-the-art Microsoft Pocket PC 2002 operating system technology. Now even the casual user can easily navigate through database configuration without the need for prior training, user manuals, or previous experience. Online help also is provided as an aid.
"With this announcement, Honeywell continues to deliver on its commitment to introduce best-in-class products that provide value," said Marc Duvall, VP/GM of Industrial Measurement and control. "The MC Toolkit saves time and expense for customers by incorporating compact, powerful off-the-shelf technology into a single tool that configures both DE and HART devices."
Honeywell MC Toolkit features and benefits include the following:
·Automatically compares and detects any differences between the device database and its own database, thus helping to reduce cost and ensure proper device installation
·Enables easy configuration of Lower Range Value, Upper Range Value, range, engineering units, damping, etc.
·Provides self-diagnostic as well as full device diagnostic support to aid in troubleshooting and maintenance
·Displays process variables (PV) for use in troubleshooting, calibration, or bench setup
·Allows other applications to be performed using the same handheld device, thus increasing the productivity of maintenance personnel.
Shipment of the product is scheduled to begin in March 2003.
